I'm officially suffering from post-festival blues. Despite the interesting films, good company and insightful panel discussions I got thrown into a momentary spell of depression following my 10 day film festival stint at Cornwall and Encounters.
Perhaps it's just me but I got this distinct feeling that everyone was out to eye up the competition this year - something that I was perhaps completely naive to a year ago. There's a part of me that wonders whether this is down to recent announcements of cuts in funding and the 'current financial climate' etc (is anyone else sick of hearing that phrase? I think I'm going to start calling it the current money weather) Despite the number of independent film projects I've got on the go I suddenly felt like a very small fish in a rather large pond; not even a fish - perhaps a pond skater or a limpet hanging on for dear life!
Pushing all the negativism aside though, I was thrown back into action again this weekend for pick ups for Raindrop Pictures first production - 'Nearly Back' which we're hoping to premiere early next year. Overlook Film's 'Waiting' has just submitted its application to the UK Film Council for Shorts Completion Funding and we are soon to submit applications for South West Screen's ifeatures. http://ifeatures.swscreen.co.uk/ Wish us luck.

Joey, you should definitely write more of this stuff - I have enjoyed reading it and getting a glimpse of your thoughts on this crazy film making world we are trying so hard to get into!
